A recent Caldwell study on education in the Middle East shows that Lebanon ranks first among Arab countries in the share of PhD holders, with 2.30% of its population holding doctoral degrees. It is followed by Saudi Arabia at 0.90%, while the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, and Jordan each record around 0.80%.

The study also highlights that smaller countries tend to perform more closely across education indicators. In the Gulf region, Qatar stands at 0.50%, while Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman all sit at approximately 0.30%, reflecting relatively similar levels of doctoral attainment across the region.
