Internally, the army's image remains the brightest. It is the unifying institution, despite some differences surrounding it, particularly regarding the roles played by army commanders in different eras. This has led, in many instances, to clear divergence between the military leadership and the political authority, specifically between more than one President of the Republic and the appointed army commander, who has often been accused of engaging in politics with aspirations of reaching Baabda Palace.
