Kuwait's foreign ministry summoned Iran's ambassador on Tuesday to protest against what it described as Tehran's targeting of Kuwaiti tanker Kaifan while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz a day earlier. The ministry said in a statement that several members of the tanker's crew suffered injuries as a result of the attack. Also, Kuwait strongly condemned the statements made by the so-called military spokesperson of the Houthi militia, which accused Saudi Arabia of besieging the Yemeni people and imposing a maritime blockade. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwait reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures taken to protect the Kingdom's security and sovereignty, stressing that Saudi Arabia's security is an integral part of Kuwait's security and that of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, SPA reported. Kuwait called on the international community to ensure the implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 on Yemen and Resolution 2722 on the protection and freedom of navigation rights in the Red Sea. It emphasized that freedom of navigation in international waterways is a right guaranteed under international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
