Jeddah Mayoralty begins expansion of Prince Majid Road to ease traffic congestion

JEDDAH — The Jeddah Governorate Mayoralty has begun implementing the project to develop and expand a 1.9-kilometer section of Prince Majid Road, extending from its intersection with the Old Makkah Road to its intersection with Al-Falah Road. The project forms part of the mayoralty’s efforts to enhance road network efficiency, improve traffic flow, and elevate the quality of life and urban landscape across the city. The mayoralty explained that the project involves widening the road to 52 meters, with four traffic lanes in each direction, bringing the total to eight lanes. The expansion will increase road capacity, facilitate smoother traffic movement, and improve connectivity between neighborhoods and the main roads intersecting the route. The project is particularly significant given Prince Majid Road’s role as a major arterial route connecting northern and southern Jeddah. It also provides access to several vital facilities and infrastructure, including King Abdulaziz International Airport and sports facilities. The development of the targeted section is expected to improve traffic flow from central and southern Jeddah towards the airport, enhance connectivity across the road network linked to the route, and facilitate access to surrounding areas. The project also includes rehabilitating and reorganizing the area within the development zone, upgrading its infrastructure, and improving its urban landscape to complement development in the surrounding areas. These measures will help enhance the quality of the urban environment and ensure optimal utilization of spaces and sites adjacent to the road. The mayoralty affirmed that the project is part of its ongoing efforts to develop major road corridors and improve infrastructure efficiency to support urban development, facilitate mobility, and enhance access to facilities and services. The initiative is also aligned with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program, one of the programs under Saudi Vision 2030.
