JEDDAH — The Jeddah Mayoralty has renamed Corniche Road as Prince Khaled Al-Faisal Road. The 17-km road extends from Al-Nakheel Street in the north to Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Street (Tahlia Street) in the south. The renaming coincides with the recent issuance of a royal decree extending the tenure of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal as Advisor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Emir of the Makkah Region for four years. The naming this vital thoroughfare after Prince Khaled Al-Faisal pays tribute to his national stature, as well as in recognition of his pivotal role in the development of the Makkah region, and his outstanding contributions to advancing services and development projects and enhancing the quality of life, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Jeddah Mayor Ihsan Bafaqih described Prince Khaled Al-Faisal as the “architect of development,” emphasizing that his deep connection to Jeddah is reflected in his administrative, developmental, and cultural contributions to the region. “Prince Khaled Al-Faisal’s supervisory and administrative roles include overseeing massive infrastructure projects, developing waterfronts, and improving road and water networks since his assumption of power as emir of the Makkah region. Furthermore, he directly supported and oversaw the transformation of the Jeddah Projects Office into the Jeddah Development Authority in 2022 to enhance the city’s historical and cultural significance,” he said. The mayor noted that, in 2017, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal officially called upon the people of Jeddah to propel the city towards becoming a world-class metropolis through continuous planning and development. “The emir’s cultural connection to the city was further demonstrated by the establishment of the Prince Khaled Al-Faisal Cultural Foundation in Jeddah in 2026, dedicated to documenting and preserving its intellectual and cultural heritage,” he said. The renaming of the road coincides the celebration of Saudi Arabia’s 96th National Day that falls on September 23. This national occasion commemorates the journey of unification and development, renewing feelings of pride in the nation and its leadership.Prince Khaled Al-Faisal is one of Saudi Arabia’s most renowned poets, with a firmly established literary and cultural presence that has enriched the Saudi poetic landscape. His poetic experience is closely intertwined with national values, pride in identity, and a deep sense of belonging. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal Road stretches for approximately 17 kilometers, passing through the Al-Shati and Al-Marjan districts. It is distinguished by its strategic location overlooking the waterfront and its proximity to several star hotels and tourist facilities. It also passes through the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, one of the city’s prominent entertainment destinations.The road is a vital urban artery within Jeddah’s traffic network, intersecting with several major roads, most notably Sari Street, Hera Street, Prince Naif Road, and Al-Salam Street. This strengthens its role in connecting vital areas and facilitating movement between different parts of the city.
