Irrigation, transport ministries ink co-operation protocols to maximise state asset utilisation

Egypt’s ministries of water resources and irrigation and transport signed two co-operation protocols aiming at maximising the utilisation of public assets owned by the irrigation ministry nationwide, in line with the country’s sustainable development strategy and Egypt Vision 2030. The agreements were signed by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam and Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir, focusing on joint efforts to optimise the use of state-owned properties related to water resources and irrigation, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The co-operation will be implemented through MOT Investment and Development Company, the investment arm of the Egyptian National Railways Authority. The two ministers also witnessed the signing of a separate protocol addressing the management and utilisation of advertising billboards located on public irrigation properties along the Nile River and other waterways, under the law No. 84 of 1968 on public roads. The protocol was also signed by Mohamed Hassan Mostafa, head of the general authority for roads and bridges, and Iman Abdel Aziz, head of the technical, financial and administrative inspection sector at the irrigation ministry. Both ministers emphasised that the agreements align with Egypt’s broader vision of achieving comprehensive development and enhancing returns from public assets. They highlighted the importance of inter-ministerial co-operation to boost state revenues, improve public services, and ensure optimal investment of national resources. The protocols stipulate strict adherence to environmental protection laws, including law No. 48 of 1982 on protecting the Nile from pollution and law No. 147 of 2021 on water resources and irrigation.
