The Embassy of India celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026 at the Pyramids of Giza, gathering senior Egyptian officials, diplomats, distinguished guests, yoga practitioners, media representatives, and friends of India. Set against the timeless backdrop of Egypt’s pyramids, the event underscored yoga’s role in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and harmony with nature. Participants joined a collective yoga session, reflecting the spirit of unity and holistic wellness that the International Day of Yoga promotes worldwide. In his remarks, Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy described yoga as a powerful global symbol of public health, inclusiveness, and shared human values. He emphasized that celebrating at the Pyramids represented the meeting of two ancient civilizations whose cultural heritage continues to inspire the world. Guests of honor included Ashraf Mohie, Director General of the Giza Pyramids Area and renowned Egyptologist, and Egyptian actor Mohamed Khamis, both of whom praised the strong India–Egypt relationship and the symbolic significance of hosting the celebration at Giza. Leading up to the main event on 21 June, the Embassy organized yoga workshops across Egypt. Under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” a special session for senior citizens was held in partnership with the Golden Years Foundation, attracting nearly 500 participants. The session highlighted yoga’s benefits for balance, flexibility, mobility, and healthy ageing. Creative initiatives also featured prominently. A “Yoga Cartoon Competition,” organized with the Fayoum Art Center and the Egyptian Cartoon Society, drew more than 200 participants from 33 countries, exploring health and wellness through humor and art. A “Favorite Yoga Pose Photo” competition invited enthusiasts to capture yoga in scenic cultural and natural settings across Egypt. The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture launched a “Yoga Video Series” showcasing certified instructors demonstrating poses such as Balasana (Child’s Pose), Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half Lord of the Fishes Pose), and Dandasana (Staff Pose). Beyond Cairo, the Embassy and the Maulana Azad Centre hosted yoga workshops and Indian Culture Day events in governorates including Ismailia and Alexandria. These drew strong public participation, reflecting yoga’s growing popularity in Egypt and the deepening people-to-people ties between India and Egypt.
