By Mohamed Attia The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has officially renewed its agreement with Egypt to keep its Middle East Regional Office in Cairo.  This decision highlights the deep trust the international community has in Egypt’s aviation infrastructure and its long-standing role as a leader in the sector.  During the signing ceremony, Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny explained that this partnership proves Egypt is a central hub for air travel development, focusing on high safety standards and modern technology. The Cairo office is much more than just a building; it serves as a vital centre for training and technical support for 15 countries across the region.  By hosting this office, Egypt plays a key role in helping neighbouring nations improve their flight operations and build a more integrated transport system.   El-Hefny noted that the government remains committed to working closely with international partners to ensure the aviation industry remains safe, efficient, and sustainable for the future. ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar praised Egypt’s active support and its success in implementing global aviation programmes.  He emphasised that the Cairo office is essential for maintaining safety and reducing the environmental impact of air travel throughout the Middle East.  Egypt has hosted this regional office since 1953, making it one of only seven such hubs in the world dedicated to advancing the goals of the global aviation community.
