Those calling for an end to the war through negotiations and hardliners such as IRGC Commander Ali Vahidi agree on Iran’s objectives in the war, including control of the Strait of Hormuz, but they differ over how to achieve them. President Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Araghchi, and negotiating team leader Ghalibaf believe that Iran risks losing its leverage the longer it refuses to return to the negotiating table. In this regard, Ghalibaf said: “The issue is not the sheer size of the military power we possess. We will not remain alive if the people go hungry and if we do not have financial resources, economic growth, and domestic production.”
