The Heritage Commission has registered 1,173 new archaeological sites in the National Antiquities Register, bringing the total number of registered sites across Saudi Arabia to 14,164. The commission emphasized that the registration of archaeological sites is a fundamental component of the cultural heritage management system, SPA reported. Inclusion in the National Antiquities Register provides legal protection for these sites, regulates research, excavation, and scientific studies, and supports national efforts to showcase the Kingdom's rich civilizational heritage. The Heritage Commission urged citizens and residents to report any archaeological sites or activities that threaten their preservation by visiting its branches and offices across the Kingdom, contacting the commission through its official social media accounts, or calling the Unified Security Operations Center at 911.
