Ham triumphs on Asian Tour

SINGAPORE — Ham Jeong-woo earned a ticket to the British Open and his first Asian Tour win with a wire-to-wire victory at the Singapore Open on Sunday. The unheralded South Korean brushed off a suspension in play of nearly four hours because of bad weather to finish on 16 under and seal a two-stroke victory at Sentosa Golf Club. Also heading to the major in July at Royal Birkdale is Australia’s Cameron John, courtesy of his second-placed finish, AFP reported. The 31-year-old Ham led with scores of 64, 68 and 68 going into the final day. He withstood the pressure from a hard-charging John to score another three-under-par 68, carding five birdies against one double bogey. The Singapore Open is part of The Open Qualifying Series, with the leading two players not otherwise exempt making it through to golf’s oldest major.
