United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said on Monday that it was “urgent to put an end to any escalation” in the Middle East, as senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan were due to hold talks in Iran.
Speaking at a press conference in Cairo, Guterres was asked about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran and Washington’s escalating threats against Tehran. He said, “The risk of a combination of a large-scale military attack on Iran and a large-scale military attack by Iran on the Gulf states must be avoided at all costs.”
