ALBAWABA – An amphibious landing scenario by Greece, the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, France and Italy, as part of the multinational MEDUSA-15 military exercise, resulted in embarrassing scenes in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The footage of Greek troops falling into the sea as they tried to get out of a landing craft and onto the beach has brought fresh scrutiny to the performance of the Greek military.
The multinational exercise MEDUSA-15 was conducted in the Eastern Mediterranean and off the coast of Crete with forces from Greece, Cyprus, France and Italy.
The drills were extensively monitored due to the military and strategic importance of the region. But the Turkish source said an apparent malfunction during the amphibious operation overshadowed what it called Athens’ attempted “show of force.”
The amphibious operation involved getting troops safely ashore via landing craft.
The problems started when one of the vessels lowered its ramp near the coastline. The Greek soldiers began to try to make their way toward the land, but some apparently lost their footing because of the waves and the weight of their military gear and fell into the water.

The soldiers were armed with assault vests, rifles and other military gear at the time.
Video shows several of the men attempting to make their way through the water and reach the shore after falling from the landing craft.
Cameras covering the amphibious practice filmed the entire incident.
Later the tape attracted the attention of the Turkish media, who characterized the incident as raising issues about the operational performance of Greece during the multinational military training.
