A coalition of Gulf and regional states has jointly taken a firm stance at the United Nations regarding escalating tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.
In a coordinated diplomatic move, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan submitted an urgent joint letter to the United Nations, firmly rejecting what they described as Iran’s attempt to impose a unilateral administrative framework over the Strait of Hormuz.
The coalition stated that the proposed “unilateral administration” undermines established international maritime law and threatens the stability of global energy and shipping routes that pass through the strategic waterway.

The letter also strongly condemned a recent drone attack targeting an ADNOC oil tanker, describing it as a “flagrant violation” of international law and referencing its breach of UNSC Resolution 2817.
The joint statement reflects growing coordination among Gulf states in response to maritime security concerns in the region. Officials emphasized that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a “non-negotiable principle” essential to global energy stability and international trade.
The coalition further warned that any attempts to alter the governance or control of the waterway outside internationally recognized frameworks could risk further escalation and destabilization.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most strategically significant chokepoints in the world, with a large percentage of global oil and gas shipments passing through it daily. Any disruption in the area has historically had immediate impacts on global energy markets and maritime insurance costs.
As diplomatic tensions continue, the issue is expected to remain a central topic at upcoming UN discussions, with calls growing for de-escalation and renewed dialogue to ensure maritime security in the Gulf region.
