Five Lebanese soldiers were slightly injured on Sunday from the explosion of a “suspicious object” in southern Lebanon. The troops were escorting residents to their town of Kafra when the explosion occurred. Soldiers accompany locals returning to border areas with the aim of removing remnants of the war and any dangers. The army has set up checkpoints in areas designated as dangerous and situated near occupying Israeli forces. In a statement on Sunday, the army said the soldiers were injured while escorting the residents back to Kafra in the Bint Jbeil region. Meanwhile, Israel escalated its operations at the Ali al-Taher heights in Nabatieh, using artillery fire and amid intense drone activity. Local media reported several explosions in the area. The National News Agency also reported explosions carried out by Israeli forces in the town of Kounine in Bint Jbeil, another in the town of al-Taybe in Marjeyoun and one in Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh. Israel has carried out over a 1,000 detonations and explosions in the South since the start of the war on March 2, security sources in southern Lebanon told Asharq Al-Awsat. Israeli military spokesperson Ella Waweya said that in eight months, Israel’s 401st Brigade destroyed over 1,200 Hezbollah infrastructure, including underground passages stretching hundreds of meters.
