Five Dead in Turkish Wedding Party Road Crash
A Turkish minibus taking a family to a wedding party overturned Saturday killing five people, including two children, and injuring 11, authorities said.
The vehicle, transporting a family to a wedding in the southeastern city of Mus, was at Lice in Diyarbakir province when a tire burst and the driver lost control, NTV television reported.
The dead children were aged 10 and four, while three of the injured were in a critical condition, authorities said.
Heavy Rain and Flooding Kill at Least 62 in Northern India
At least 62 people have died after days of heavy rain and flooding in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh state, officials said Monday.
The state government said 46 people were injured and more than 1,000 houses were damaged after three days of heavy rainfall caused flooding in several districts, reported The Associated Press.
Schools were closed Monday in parts of the state, including the capital, Lucknow, while rescue teams moved people from flooded areas to safer locations. Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel through waterlogged areas and stay away from fast-flowing rivers, streams and drains.
Rainfall was expected to ease from Monday as a weather system over the Bay of Bengal weakened, said Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Center in Lucknow. Light rain could continue in eastern and western parts of the state through Tuesday, he said.
Flooding also affected the eastern state of Odisha, where more than 75,000 people were evacuated to safer areas, officials said.
In neighboring Nepal, 21 people died in weather-related incidents from Thursday through Sunday, the country's disaster management agency said. Five people remained missing and five others were injured, while floods and landslides damaged 194 houses.
Nepal is recovering from devastating August floods that killed more than 1,400 people and left nearly 6,000 missing.

Intelligence reports show Russia is planning more acts of sabotage in Europe, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Monday.
"We need to be vigilant because we see in the intelligence that Russia is planning more sabotage acts and attacks against our democracy - to divide our society, to intimidate our societies (into) refraining to help Ukraine," Kallas said before a meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels according to Reuters.
Eight Dead in Thailand Floods Since Mid-September
Eight people have died in flooding in Thailand since September 16, although none in the capital Bangkok which declared a disaster this weekend following heavy rains, the government said Monday.
The eight died in eastern provinces -- five in Sa Kaeo, two in Chanthaburi and one in Saraburi -- according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), which did not give further details.
Not including Bangkok, more than 500,000 housesholds and 1.7 million people across 27 provinces in the Southeast Asian country have been affected by flooding, the DDPM said.
A further 52,000 households were impacted in the capital, which on Saturday declared a city-wide disaster after almost 48 hours of heavy rain swelled canals and flooded roads.
No deaths have been officially reported in Bangkok, and the DDPM said water levels had stabilized.
However, AFP reporters saw heavy rain and flooding in at least one eastern neighborhood, with residents wading through thigh-high waters.
Schools have been closed and people urged to work from home -- a call that many heeded, with streets and public transport networks noticeably quieter on Monday morning.
"Some areas in Bangkok are still facing high water levels," government spokesman Ekkapob Pianpises told a news briefing.
Drainage systems had reduced water levels to the point that more people could travel, he added.
Thailand is used to wet weather and September is the peak of the rainy season, but many residents said this year seemed worse than previous ones.
