Egypt’s EGAC secures EU recognition for carbon footprint verification

DAILY NEWS EGYPT

Egypt’s Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), affiliated with the Ministry of Industry, has extended its international recognition from the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA) to include carbon footprint verification under ISO 14067 standards. The expanded scope covers certification and verification bodies and has been reflected in global accreditation databases, including the Global Accreditation Cooperation and the EA registry. According to EGAC CEO Mohamed Hassan, the milestone comes as part of the Ministry of Industry’s strategy to maximise the benefits of international accreditation and strengthen Egypt’s capabilities in measuring and reducing carbon emissions. He noted that the move is particularly significant for certification and verification bodies, supporting Egypt’s alignment with evolving global environmental standards and compliance frameworks. Hassan added that the expanded recognition is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian exports in European Union markets, where carbon-related requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. It also supports national efforts to develop a domestic carbon trading market. EGAC currently operates across 13 accreditation fields for conformity assessment bodies, positioning it among the largest accreditation entities globally. Its international recognition is granted through the Global Accreditation Cooperation, alongside regional bodies including the African Accreditation Cooperation, the Arab Accreditation Cooperation, and the European Cooperation for Accreditation. The latest expansion reinforces Egypt’s role within international quality infrastructure systems and supports broader efforts to enhance industrial competitiveness and integration into global markets. The post Egypt’s EGAC secures EU recognition for carbon footprint verification first appeared on Dailynewsegypt.
