Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem emphasized on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, that Egypt is implementing a new industrial vision aimed at integrating its industry more deeply into global value and supply chains and enhancing the sector’s international competitiveness. This will be achieved by focusing on technology, innovation, and empowering the private sector. The minister made these remarks during a panel discussion as part of celebrations marking 50 years of partnership between Egypt and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), attended by several ministers, senior officials, representatives of international financial institutions, and private sector leaders. Hashem explained that the Ministry of Industry has recently updated the national industrial strategy, targeting a number of priority industrial sectors based on clear, scientific criteria. The strategy emphasizes attracting investments linked to technology transfer and industrial expertise, not just capital inflows. The ministry aims to move beyond merely replacing imports toward full integration with the global economy and international production chains, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional industrial hub with access to global markets. He highlighted that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are a cornerstone of the new industrial strategy, serving as the foundation for a strong and sustainable industrial sector. The ministry is working to create a more supportive industrial environment for these projects, as well as to streamline industrial procedures and services through actual digital transformation, simplifying processes and addressing investors’ challenges. Human capital development is also a key priority in the coming phase, focusing on improving the quality of technical education and training and aligning its outcomes with the needs of industry and global competitiveness. Regarding the green transition, Hashem said Egypt has a significant opportunity to become a regional hub for low-emission industries, particularly in light of international trends toward decarbonization and green manufacturing standards. He emphasized the importance of integrating renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean technologies across industrial activities. The minister noted that the ministry aims for Egypt to become one of the most integrated countries in global value chains within the targeted industrial sectors in the coming years. At the same time, it seeks to cement the reputation of Egyptian products as high-quality global goods and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian labor in international markets. Finally, Hashem stressed that empowering the private sector is a fundamental pillar for achieving industrial growth and economic transformation. Technology, innovation, artificial intelligence, and linking scientific research with industrial applications will be among the key drivers of Egypt’s next phase of industrial development.
