EgyptAir starts direct flights to Chicago

By Mohamed Attia EgyptAir has officially launched its first direct flight from Cairo to Chicago, reflecting the airline’s significant expansion into the US market and boosting its presence across the global aviation network. The Cairo–Chicago route marks the second major American destination introduced by EgyptAir in 2026, following the launch of flights to Los Angeles. Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company Captain Ahmed Adel stated that operating the Cairo–Chicago route is a strategic milestone within EgyptAir’s 2026 growth and development plan, reinforcing its position as a national carrier supporting state efforts to stimulate travel and tourism while seamlessly connecting Egypt to global markets. Captain Mohamed Elayan Adel added that this new destination increases EgyptAir’s footprint in the United States to five destinations, bringing its total North American network to six destinations, including Toronto, Canada. Furthermore, he highlighted that the routes to both Chicago and Los Angeles will be operated using the Airbus A350-900, the latest addition to EgyptAir’s fleet, which features advanced operational efficiency and modern technologies. Chairman of EgyptAir Airlines Captain Mohamed Elayan confirmed that the airline will operate three weekly flights to Chicago on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, noting that the opening of this new route builds on the successful launch of the Los Angeles flights, which also operate three times a week. Elayan added that the new route boosts the national carrier’s role in connecting Africa and the Americas, and that the airline expects high demand for these routes, which will directly and effectively support commercial and cultural co-operation and boost tourism. To mark the occasion, EgyptAir hosted a special send-off celebration for passengers at Cairo International Airport. The event was attended by a delegation from the US Embassy in Cairo, alongside Major General Ismail Safwat, Head of the Security Sector at EgyptAir Holding Company. The passengers enjoyed interactive games and a festive atmosphere. Upon arrival at Chicago O’Hare International Airport following a flight of over 12 hours, the aircraft was officially welcomed by Ahmed Saad, EgyptAir’s Chicago Regional Director, the local EgyptAir team, and a large delegation of Chicago’s airport officials.
