Egypt, US keen to advance economic partnership

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid affirmed Egypt’s commitment to boosting a balanced and sustainable economic partnership with the United States, while continuing efforts to create a fair and competitive business environment that supports domestic industry and boosts Egyptian exports. The remarks came during a meeting on Saturday with a US delegation as part of a round of bilateral trade consultations aimed at enhancing co-operation and advancing commercial relations between the two countries. The American delegation included Robert Silverman, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Cairo; Bryant Trick, Assistant US Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East; Sonia Franceski, Senior Director at the Office of the US Trade Representative for the Middle East; Leo Roitman, Director of Agriculture at the office; and Chris Riker, Minister-Counselor for Agricultural Affairs. Discussions during the meeting covered developments in Egypt-US trade relations, alongside a number of technical issues related to bilateral trade. Both sides also explored ways to diversify markets and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products within the legal frameworks of the World Trade Organisation. Farid said Egypt is seeking to deepen co-operation in future-oriented sectors, particularly energy, technology, and advanced industries, stressing the importance of attracting investments in local rare metals manufacturing to maximise added value and support industrial development. He noted that economic relations between Egypt and the United States span decades and continue to develop steadily, underscoring the need to build on the current momentum to expand trade and investment exchange in a manner that serves the interests of both countries. The minister also highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to foster an attractive investment climate based on transparency and equal opportunities, while supporting the industrial sector and enhancing its competitiveness in global markets. He pointed to promising opportunities for co-operation with the United States in clean energy, advanced industries, and agriculture. Farid further affirmed Egypt’s openness to continued dialogue to address any existing trade challenges and reach balanced solutions that facilitate smoother trade flows between the two sides. For his part, Bryant Trick, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Cairo, stressed the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue between the two countries, noting that such consultations strengthen mutual understanding and support the stability of economic relations. He added that the United States values Egypt’s efforts to improve the business environment and implement economic reforms, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to expanding co-operation in areas of shared interest.
