Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, held separate talks with his Turkish and Omani counterparts on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, focusing on Gaza and wider regional security challenges. During his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the provisions of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, ensuring unhindered humanitarian aid to the Strip and launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts. The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations, with Abdelatty expressing Cairo’s keenness to further strengthen co-operation with Türkiye, particularly in trade, investment and industry. On regional issues, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians and condemned the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. They also discussed developments in Sudan and Libya, with Abdelatty stressing the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity and sovereignty and supporting a sustainable political settlement in Libya while safeguarding its unity and national institutions. The ministers further exchanged views on the Iranian crisis, stressing the importance of mediation efforts to restore negotiations between the United States and Iran and promote regional stability. They also underscored the need to protect the security of Gulf states and ensure that maritime routes are not used as a means of exerting pressure. In his meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Abdelatty discussed bilateral relations and ways to expand trade and economic co-operation, alongside regional developments in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb. Abdelatty stressed the need for de-escalation and respect for freedom of navigation under international law, warning against steps that could further threaten regional security and stability. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its sovereignty and stability. The two ministers discussed the Iranian crisis and developments in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting Oman’s mediation efforts in coordination with Egypt and other mediators. They stressed the importance of protecting maritime navigation and maintaining the uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies.
