Egypt to host BWF World Juniors

Tamer Mohamed CAIRO — Egyptian Badminton Federation president Hadia Hosni expressed her happiness at the Badminton World Federation’s real trust in Egypt’s ability to host the 2026 World Junior Championships this October. The BWF has given Egypt the nod to stage the 2026 World Junior Championships — a clear sign of growing confidence in the country across the global badminton scene. “The move is a significant step in cementing Egypt as a key centre for badminton, not just in the region but around the globe,” Hosni told The Egyptian Gazette. This will be only the second time, as Africa has only hosted the tournament once before, in South Africa back in 2002. Hosni also praised the youth and sports ministry for boosting the sport forward and keeping supporting its growth. Egypt’s selection strengthens its reputation as a go-to spot for major sporting events. Returning to Africa after 24 years, the 2026 championships will give badminton a fresh push across the continent and help spot new talent, aligning with a packed sporting year that also includes the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The BWF’s decision reflects real trust in Egypt’s ability to deliver a top-notch edition, with added benefits of boosting sports tourism. Minister of Youth and Sports, Gohar Nabil, described the hosting as a renewed vote of confidence in Egypt’s advanced facilities and proven organisational expertise. BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul said Egypt’s selection forms part of the federation’s strategy to expand badminton globally and make its mark in Africa.
