Egypt targets higher petroleum output, stronger supply security

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said increasing local production and securing supplies of petroleum products are top priorities, stressing the role of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) in efficiently managing the supply system through integration among its sectors, monitoring the performance of companies, and maximising the use of existing production. Badawi made the remarks during a meeting with the Executive Council of the EGPC, chaired by Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of the corporation, and attended by its executive vice presidents, to follow up on the implementation of work plans and projects across the corporation’s various activities. The meeting reviewed production, exploration, and prospecting plans in cooperation with investment partners, project implementation rates, petroleum product supplies, crude oil refining operations, and the efficiency of product handling and distribution systems. It also addressed measures to ensure the continued provision of domestic market needs and regular supplies to various state sectors. The minister stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of targeted projects, enhance operational efficiency, improve the economics of activities and projects, and maximise returns from available assets and resources. He noted that these efforts would support increased production, improve performance, and enhance the efficiency of services provided to citizens, while continuing efforts to attract and encourage investment and expand exploration, prospecting, and production activities. Badawi also stressed the importance of enhancing EGPC’s performance and developing its work mechanisms, while continuing to review performance indicators, measure results, and address any challenges that could hinder the implementation of plans. Such measures would strengthen the corporation and its companies’ ability to achieve their targets within the specified timelines, he said. The minister directed continued close monitoring of the implementation of plans and projects and the swift resolution of any challenges or obstacles, while prioritising projects that have a direct impact on increasing production, securing supplies, and improving economic efficiency. He also stressed the need for full compliance with the highest standards of occupational health and safety and environmental protection across all work sites.
