Chairman of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA), Navigator Samah Fawzi, has highlighted Egypt’s commitment to applying global best practices in aviation. The Egyptian airports winning international awards reflects the success of Egypt’s integrated approach to developing transport networks, logistics services, and investment-supporting infrastructure, Fawzi said as he participated in the Africa Air Transport Expo in Lomé, Togo. He emphasised the importance of modernising air navigation systems, investing in human capital, and embedding environmental sustainability standards across aviation projects. He stated that these efforts aim to achieve balanced and sustainable growth for the sector across Africa. Addressing the fifth panel session titled “Strengthening the Air Transport Industry and Investing in Aviation Infrastructure,” Fawzi pointed out that Egypt’s experience has proven effective, with several airports receiving international recognition for environmental sustainability and green airport initiatives. He added that Egypt’s participation aligns with directives from Civil Aviation Minister Dr. Sameh Hefny, who prioritisesexpanding cooperation with African nations to support continental integration and reinforce Egypt’s role as a regional hub for air transport. On the sidelines of the conference, the Egyptian delegation held bilateral meetings with heads of delegations and civil aviation authorities from participating countries to discuss enhancing cooperation in air transport, increasing connectivity between Egypt and African states, and exchanging technical expertise. The talks also addressed integration of supply chains, capacity building, and boosting trade, investment, and tourism across the continent. The conference, inaugurated by Togolese President Jean-Lucien Savi de Tovi with the participation of Rwanda’s President, underscored the importance of advancing the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), reducing air transport costs, and investing in aviation infrastructure to drive economic growth and integration. The Egyptian delegation was led by Fawzi and included Pilot Karim Jamil, Advisor to the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority and National Contact Point at the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), alongside Egypt’s Ambassadorto Togo, Ahmed Mohamed Eid.
