Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, discussed in a phone call on Friday with his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop, ways to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance counterterrorism efforts in the Sahel region. Mali’s top diplomat reviewed the latest security developments in his country and ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, aimed at restoring stability and security in Mali amid rapidly evolving events. For his part, Abdel-Aati praised the strong relations between the two countries and reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of the recent terrorist attacks in Mali. He affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Mali in confronting such acts and its firm rejection of all threats to the country’s security and stability. Emphasising Cairo’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of intensified regional and international cooperation. He called for a comprehensive strategy—one that links security with development—to dismantle the funding networks and extremist ideologies that fuel instability across the Sahel and the wider African continent. The ministers concluded by exchanging views on broader initiatives to promote peace and development in Africa. They agreed to enhance coordination at both bilateral and multilateral levels, building on existing momentum to serve their shared strategic interests and support regional stability.
