Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Tuesday with Lebanese Public Health Minister Rakan Nasser El Din on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly currently held in Geneva to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation and supporting the healthcare sector. Abdel Ghaffar affirmed the depth of the historic and fraternal ties between Egypt and Lebanon, stressing Egypt’s keenness, leadership, government and people, to support Lebanon in facing current health and humanitarian challenges. Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the talks tackled cooperation in hospital management, training and capacity-building for medical personnel, combating communicable and non-communicable diseases, and supporting primary healthcare, emergency and urgent care services. The two sides also discussed benefiting from Egypt’s experience in implementing the comprehensive health insurance system, agreeing to organize a visit for a Lebanese Health Ministry delegation to Egypt to review implementation stages and exchange technical and administrative expertise. The spokesman added that the meeting reviewed Egypt’s medical and relief support to Lebanon over recent years, including shipments of medicines and medical supplies following the Beirut port explosion and during recent crises. The talks also addressed the outcomes of the emergency virtual meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers for Health held in March 2026, which approved urgent support worth $200,000 for Lebanon to help meet pressing healthcare needs and support the Lebanese health sector. For his part, the Lebanese health minister praised Egypt’s continued support for Lebanon and its prominent role in backing the Lebanese healthcare sector and promoting Arab and regional health cooperation. Both ministers stressed the importance of continued coordination to support regional health security and enhance the preparedness of healthcare systems to deal with crises and emergencies.
