Egypt, France discuss fostering cooperation in renewable energy

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat and French Ambassador in Cairo Éric Chevallier discussed ways of boosting cooperation in renewable energy, energy efficiency, the development of control centers, and technical assistance. The two sides also tackled collaboration in upgrading the national power grid, through increasing its capacity to accommodate renewable energy sources within the country’s Integrated Sustainable Energy Strategy. The minister lauded the contribution of the French Development Agency (AFD) to financing renewable energy projects in Egypt. Esmat highlighted the strong and longstanding relations between Egypt and France, and their positive impact across various economic fields, particularly in electricity and renewable energy. He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in development, economic and investment areas, and of attracting more investments into the field of electricity and renewable energy. Esmat welcomed cooperation with French companies in light of the economic partnership between Egypt and France, which is reflected in numerous projects, underscoring the significance of ongoing projects to develop the unified national grid and increase reliance on renewable energy sources in the energy mix. For his part, the French ambassador said Egypt is a pivotal and strategic destination for French investments, highlighting the depth and strength of historical ties between Cairo and Paris. He added French companies are keen to establish new investments in Egypt, with several new projects expected in the coming period, particularly in modern technologies, clean energy and renewable energy.
