ABUJA — Egypt’s track cycling team delivered strong results at the ongoing African Championships in Abuja, Nigeria, securing multiple medals and continuing the nation’s continental dominance in the sport. Egyptian riders won a range of medals, highlighted by gold medals for champion Ibtissam Zayed and champion Shahd Saeed, while Judy Mohamed El-Sayed excelled with three medals, gold, silver and bronze. On the men’s side, Seif Mohamed Ibrahim claimed a bronze medal, alongside bronze medals for Abi-Mohamed Magdy and Amr El-Saeed, reinforcing Egypt’s strong overall performance in the competition. Deputy President of the Egyptian Cycling Federation and head of the delegation Ahmed Gaber expressed his satisfaction with the results, saying the achievements reflect strong planning and hard work by the federation’s board over recent months. He said the athletes performed at a high level and demonstrated that Egyptian cycling is on a steady path toward further continental and international success. He noted that the federation, chaired by Ayman Ali Hassan, provided a comprehensive preparation program ahead of the championships, including a closed training camp near Cairo Stadium under the supervision of the technical staff to ensure peak readiness. He added that the coaching team, led by Mohamed Ibrahim, worked intensively to prepare the athletes both technically and physically. The head of delegation stressed that the federation continues to develop a new generation of riders capable of competing at the highest international level. The track cycling team is supervised by board member of the Egyptian Cycling Federation Ehab Sabry as part of ongoing oversight during the championship. The squad includes female riders Ibtissam Zayed, Shahd Saeed, Habiba Aliwa, Goumana Alaa El-Din and Judy Mohamed El-Sayed, while the men’s team includes Mahmoud Sobhi, Mahmoud Bakr, Omar El-Saeed, Seif-Allah Mohamed Ibrahim and Abi-Mohamed Magdy.
