ALBAWABA - Ed Sheeran has canceled his Gillette Stadium shows this weekend.
The gigs, which were scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday nights at the Foxborough, Massachusetts, venue, have been canceled owing to a nor'easter moving up the east coast.
"Due to the severe weather warnings in place in Boston and across New England throughout the weekend and following consultation with local officials, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium," Messina Touring Group stated in a statement.
"The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff, and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority."
"Gillette Stadium has a longstanding commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all guests and ensuring that events held at our venue do not provide a platform for hate speech," Kraft said in part in a statement released after Macklemore was dropped from Sheeran's tour, implying that the influential New England Patriots owner was involved in the decision. "Based on Macklemore's recent actions, stage footage from Ed Sheeran's New Jersey shows, and a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that we believe has been deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community, we determined that his participation in the September 25th and 26th concerts at Gillette Stadium would cross that line." This judgment does not belittle the suffering of innocent Palestinians or deny anyone the right to advocate on their behalf. Their anguish and loss are genuine. But such advocacy should not come at the price of the Jewish community or mask the culpability of Hamas, a declared terrorist group that has caused enormous suffering for both Palestinians and Israelis.

The Wall Street Journal later stated that Kraft and other NFL stadium owners contacted Messina Touring Group following Macklemore's first "Free Palestine" remarks at his MetLife Stadium event on September 4 and were told he would not bring up the matter again. However, Macklemore repeated his remarks during the second MetLife Stadium event.
On September 14, Messina Touring Group dropped Macklemore from the tour, citing venue restrictions that prevented the rapper from performing.

"As the concert promoter for Ed Sheeran's U.S. Loop Tour, we have been notified by venues on the upcoming U.S. tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup, which would result in the cancelation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans," Messina Touring Group said in a statement announcing Macklemore's departure from the tour. "After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates."
