Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded two contracts worth AED1.161 billion for the Al Meydan Street Development Project, one of the authority’s key strategic road infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing Dubai’s main road network.According to the RTA, the project will create a strategic transport corridor supporting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, increasing north-south traffic capacity by 18 per cent.The project is expected to serve a number of residential and development areas with a combined population of more than 500,000 residents and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.RTA said the project will reduce travel time between Al Manama Street and the Dubai-Al Ain Road to Umm Suqeim Street from 30 minutes to 10 minutes, representing a 66 per cent improvement.RTAThe works include the development of several key intersections along Al Meydan Street through the construction of 3,700 metres of bridges and 17 kilometres of roads.Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said Al Meydan Street is one of Dubai’s key strategic corridors, running parallel to and supporting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.Al Tayer said the project will strengthen connectivity across Dubai’s road network, provide alternative routes that improve traffic distribution, enhance traffic flow, and boost mobility efficiency between key areas.
