Dubai: Dubai Land Department (DLD) is planning to launch a new 'Rent Now, Pay Later' initiative in partnership with a local bank, aimed at making housing more accessible through flexible, interest-free rental payments.According to informed sources, the initiative is expected to be launched at the beginning of September 2026 and will allow tenants to rent residential units without paying the full annual rent upfront.Under the proposed mechanism, a tenant would select a property, after which the participating bank would pay the landlord the full annual rental amount. The tenant would then repay the bank through instalments spread over a period of up to 12 months, without incurring interest charges.Sources said the initiative is designed to provide greater flexibility for tenants while supporting access to housing and easing the financial burden associated with annual rental payments. If implemented as planned, Dubai would become the first city in the world to fully adopt such a mechanism within its rental market framework, according to the sources. The initiative is also expected to strengthen cooperation between the government and banking sectors while introducing new financial solutions to support the real estate market.Further details, including eligibility criteria, application procedures, financing arrangements and the regulations governing the relationship between tenants, landlords and banks, are expected to be announced officially closer to the launch date. The planned initiative follows the launch of Dubai Land Department's 'Affordable Rental' initiative on 23 June 2026, which introduced more flexible rental payment options, including monthly, quarterly and semi-annual payment plans. That initiative was launched in partnership with a number of real estate companies, including Wasl Properties, Deyaar Real Estate Management, Dubai World Real Estate, Dubai Investments Real Estate, Rocky Real Estate, SRG Properties, Harbour Real Estate Brokerage, Darven Real Estate and Al Shuwaib Real Estate. The Affordable Rental initiative forms part of the Dubai Real Estate Sector Strategy 2033, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of the emirate's property market and strengthen Dubai's position as a leading global destination for investment and residency.
