Diplomat Najat Omrabi has earned a PhD in Media Studies with an Excellent grade and First-Class Honours for her thesis, “The Role of the Arab League’s Media Discourse in Shaping Public Attitudes Towards Internal Conflicts in the Region”. The study examined the Arab League’s media discourse on regional conflicts and crises, focusing on its key issues, arguments and concepts and its impact on public attitudes. Using media discourse analysis, in-depth interviews with experts and a field study measuring public attitudes, the research found that the League’s discourse has evolved in response to political and field developments. It also highlighted gaps between official media discourse and developments on the ground, as well as challenges posed by differing member-state positions, changing audience behaviour and competition from digital and social media. The study recommended developing an integrated media strategy, strengthening explanatory and analytical content, improving responses to misinformation, using artificial intelligence to enhance media performance and expanding cooperation with Arab media organisations. Omrabi said the research reflected her interest in strengthening Arab institutional media and developing its ability to communicate effectively with audiences amid changes in the regional and international media landscape.
