Coalition targets Houthi fuel facilities used to support missile, drone attacks

RIYADH — The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen said Tuesday that it had conducted a military operation targeting Houthi capabilities linked to fuel facilities in Sanaa, Hodeidah and Dhamar, accusing the militia of exploiting civilian infrastructure to support missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia and international shipping routes.Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said the Joint Forces Command had established that the Houthis were using civilian facilities and vital resources to sustain their military operations. The facilities identified included Al-Sabaha Central Station in Sanaa, underground fuel reserves, storage tanks and infrastructure used for transporting and unloading fuel in Hodeidah, Sanaa and Dhamar.Al-Maliki said the militia had diverted these resources from their intended civilian purposes to directly support its military operations, depriving the Yemeni population of essential supplies.According to the coalition, the facilities were being used to sustain the Houthis' missile and drone arsenal, which threatens Saudi Arabia, airports, ports and commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea.The spokesman said the facilities had made a direct contribution to attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as preparations for imminent attacks targeting civilian facilities in Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in international waterways. He said the operation focused on neutralizing Houthi capabilities used to threaten Saudi Arabia, Yemen, the southern Red Sea and international maritime routes.Al-Maliki stressed that coalition forces remain committed to international humanitarian law and had taken feasible precautions during the planning and execution of the operation to minimize the risk of incidental civilian casualties and damage. The coalition also demanded an immediate halt to Houthi attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure."The Houthis must immediately cease all terrorist operations targeting civilians and civilian facilities, including airports, ports, oil installations and infrastructure," Al-Maliki said. The announcement follows an earlier coalition warning urging civilians to evacuate Al-Sabaha Central Station in Sanaa ahead of a planned military operation.
