World-renowned director Christopher Nolan revealed new details about his highly anticipated Mythological epic film, “The Odyssey,” during his appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The Odyssey is Nolan’s 13th film and is expected to be released later this year. Nolan’s last film was Oppenheimer in 2023, which grossed US$ 958.8 million and received 13 Oscar nominations, winning seven awards. Nolan expressed his admiration for Tom Holland, star of Spider-Man, who plays Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, in the film. He described Holland as one of the last actors in Hollywood who knows his full acting potential, and indicated his desire to collaborate with him in the future. Nolan also discussed Anne Hathaway, who co-starred in his films Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises, and also appears in his latest film, “The Odyssey,” playing Penelope, Odysseus’s wife and the Queen of Ithaca. He said he had seen her new film, “The Devil Wears Prada II,” and found it “fantastic.” He also praised Emily Blunt’s performance. When the show’s host, Stephen Colbert, pointed out that Holland, Hathaway, and also Robert Pattinson—the stars of his new film—had all appeared in superhero movies, Nolan said that much of the comics culture, whether in Marvel or DC, is directly inspired by Homer’s epics. He said that they reflect humanity’s desire to believe that gods could live among them. Nolan explained that presenting a work of the magnitude of “The Odyssey” was a significant challenge due to the epic’s literary and historical value; therefore, he approached it with a high degree of responsibility.
