Of course, this does not mean that the European and American right caused the events that took place in occupied Ceuta. However, its rapid move to exploit them in a way that serves its political and electoral interests contributed to creating confusion around any objective reading that places the event within its political, economic, and social contexts. A broad segment of the European media also contributed to serving the right-wing narrative, and even to misleading European and international public opinion among those who have no knowledge of the history and status of Ceuta, through headlines such as: “How did 60,000 Moroccans reach Europe?” while the reality is that Ceuta is an occupied Moroccan city located on Moroccan territory on the African continent, not in Europe.
