Capcom hit with major data breach: more than 11 million users affected

ALBAWABA - Japanese video game giant Capcom announced that an unauthorized third party breached its online membership service, " CAPCOM ID," causing the leak of over 11 million accounts worldwide.

According to Notebookcheck, the company detected the unauthorized access on October 19 and quickly blocked it. However, the damage was already done. While the service remains active, the company says it's working to prevent recurrence and promises to strengthen its security framework. It also reported the attack to Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission on October 21.

CAPCOM has confirmed a major data breach affecting more than 11.7 million CAPCOM ID accounts worldwide.

The leaked data includes:

-Email addresses
-IP addresses
-Account activity
-Account creation and login information

In 43 cases, additional personal details were exposed, including dates of birth, gender, country/region and nicknames.
CAPCOM also found that 196 accounts had their passwords changed by someone else.

The good news is that CAPCOM says passwords themselves were not leaked, and no credit card information was affected.

Leaked user data includes email addresses, IP addresses, account activity, and personal information such as dates of birth, gender, usernames, and country/ region. Capcom also revealed that 196 accounts had their passwords changed by someone else.

The company is notifying affected customers and warning other users to watch out for phishing emails that could potentially steal sensitive information.

Capcom had one of its biggest years in 2026 for releasing five successful games, including Pragmata, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and Dragon's Dogma II: Dark Arisen.
