By Mohamed Attia The FC Barcelona handball team, accompanied by administrative staff and representatives from the club’s board of directors, visited EgyptAir’s headquarters in Cairo to congratulate the Egyptian national carrier on winning Skytrax’s “World’s Most Improved Airline” award for 2026. The Spanish team commended the significant progress and ongoing efforts made by EgyptAir to continuously elevate its service standards and strengthen its international position. During their visit, the delegation toured the EgyptAir museum, where they explored the carrier’s rich history and praised its nearly 95-year legacy. They commended the company’s various stages of growth and development that have solidified its standing as one of the most established airlines both regionally and internationally. The FC Barcelona delegation was formally welcomed by Chairman of the EgyptAir Holding Company Ahmed Adel, Deputy Ambassador of Spain to Egypt Cristina Fraile and Board Member of FC Barcelona Joan Solé. The reception was also attended by Assistant to the Chairman of EgyptAir Holding Company Sherif Khalil and Chairman of EgyptAir Airlines Mohamed Elian. The gathering served to welcome the visiting team and highlight the ongoing partnership between EgyptAir and FC Barcelona as an ideal model of international co-operation connecting sports and aviation. EgyptAir Chairman Ahmed Adel emphasised that the visit reflects the deep partnership between the two organizations. He noted that collaborating with a renowned club with a global fanbase helps extend EgyptAir’s vision of strengthening its international brand presence and opening new channels to connect with diverse audiences worldwide. He expressed pride in serving as the exclusive official airline partner for the handball team and looked forward to future joint initiatives. In turn, the FC Barcelona delegation expressed their delight in visiting the headquarters, gaining firsthand insight into the national carrier’s history, and experiencing warm Egyptian hospitality. The event forms part of a broader partnership agreement signed between EgyptAir and FC Barcelona running through the 2028/2029 season, designating EgyptAir as the exclusive official airline partner for the club’s football, basketball, and handball teams. Activating this collaboration, EgyptAir has already begun operating dedicated flights for the club, including special flights on its Airbus A320neo aircraft to transport the basketball team for EuroLeague competition matches.
