RIYADH — After a long vacation that began on June 25 and continued for several weeks, schools will resume operations on Tuesday, with the return of administrators and supervisors. Teachers will return the following Sunday, August 16. Students are scheduled to return to their classrooms on Sunday, August 23. However, the education departments in Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Taif are excluded from this return schedule. In these four educational departments, male and female teachers will return to schools on Aug. 23. The actual start of classes, however, will take place with the return of male and female students to schools on Aug. 30. With the anticipated start of the new academic year following the vacation, male and female students can expect six holidays: two days for the National Day celebrations, nine days for the fall vacation, nine days for the mid-year vacation, two days for the Founding Day, 16 days for Eid Al-Fitr, and the same duration for Eid Al-Adha. It is noteworthy that the academic calendar for all educational departments, including the four departments, will be unified with regard to school vacations throughout the year, including the Eid Al-Fitr holiday. The exception is the Eid Al-Adha holiday. In all other departments, it will begin on the first day of Dhul Hijjah and continue until the sixteenth of the same month. But in the departments of Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, and Taif, the Eid Al-Adha holiday will begin on Dhul Qada 23 and continue until Dhul Hijjah 16, taking into account of the work requirements and special circumstances of the Hajj season.
