AED50,000 fine, community service for assaulting gas station employee

The Al Ain Criminal Court convicted two defendants after it was established that they assaulted a gas station employee using force and violence while he was carrying out his duties as a public servant. The incident arose from a dispute over cleaning a vehicle's windshield during service. The court sentenced the defendants to two months of community service at the same gas station where the incident occurred and imposed fines of AED 50,000 on each of them for assaulting a person in charge of a public service and disturbing public order.According to case records, the incident began when the driver of the first defendant's vehicle requested that the windshield be cleaned. The employee informed him that there was a queue and that he would need to wait. A verbal dispute then broke out and escalated into a physical assault, leaving the victim with bruises and intermittent pain, as documented in a medical report. In reaching its verdict, the court relied on evidence contained in the case file, including CCTV footage that captured the altercation and assault, the defendants' confessions before the court, witness testimonies, and the medical report submitted as evidence. In its ruling, the court stated that the sentence was issued in accordance with the Crimes and Penal Code, which criminalises assaulting a public official or a person entrusted with a public service, as well as using force or violence against them during or because of the performance of their duties. The court emphasised that respecting the law and using official channels to resolve disputes are the best means of avoiding legal consequences.
