Abu Dhabi to activate new ‘Darb’ toll gates from tomorrow

Abu Dhabi: The Integrated Transport Centre ‘Abu Dhabi Mobility’, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, announced the activation and operation of two new toll gates under the ‘Darb’ system in Abu Dhabi. The gates will be operational starting tomorrow, Monday, May 4, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.The implementation and operation of the two gates, in cooperation with ‘Q Mobility’, is part of the Centre’s efforts to enhance traffic flow on main roads, improve the efficiency of the road network, and reduce congestion, particularly during peak hours.The Centre identified the locations of the two new gates: the first is located in the Ghantoot area on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road, while the second is on Oasis of Dignity (Wahat Al Karama) Street at the entrance and exit of Sheikh Zayed Street.The Centre explained that these locations were selected based on specialized traffic studies that considered movement density, commuting patterns, and the availability of alternative routes. The Al Qurm toll gate on Oasis of Dignity Street allows drivers to use Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street or Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street as alternative paths. For the Ghantoot toll gate, road users can choose Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road as an alternative route.Regarding fees, the Centre stated that a fee of AED 4 will be applied for each crossing. It confirmed that exemptions remain in place for one vehicle for the following categories: senior citizens, people of determination, individuals with limited income, and retired citizens.The Integrated Transport Centre emphasized that the addition of these two gates is part of efforts to develop the emirate’s road network to keep pace with urban expansion and growing traffic. The Centre will continue to monitor the impact of the new gates through periodic reviews to measure results and analyze usage patterns, ensuring the effective application of the system according to approved traffic requirements.
