UAE VP Approves National Statistical System Development Plan

Lead:

The UAE conducted high-level policy reviews and administrative initiatives aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and digital transformation. Vice President Muhammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum approved a new national statistical development programme, while the Abu Dhabi Department of Governance launched an artificial intelligence-supported policy development initiative. These parallel efforts signal a coordinated approach to modernizing public administration across federal and emirate-level institutions.

Details:

According to Al-Khaleeej, Vice President and Prime Minister Muhammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum approved the National Programme for Developing the Statistical System at the state level. This framework is designed to enhance the integration of the national statistical infrastructure and strengthen the UAE's competitive positioning through data-driven governance. Muhammad bin Hamid al-Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development, underscored that the programme's adoption advances unified coordination across the national statistical apparatus.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Governance launched a complementary initiative employing artificial intelligence to enhance leadership capabilities in policy-making. This programme targets government officials at all levels, supporting the formulation and evaluation of public policies with technological assistance. The move reflects broader digital transformation priorities across UAE federal and local agencies.

In personnel matters, the Presidential Guard announced the continuation of recruitment campaigns under the slogan "Be with the Elite," targeting Emirati youth for military service. The initiative offers service exemptions and diplomas accredited by higher education institutions, with registration centres operating across all seven emirates. According to Al-Khaleeej reporting, the State Ministry for Youth Affairs and the Federal Youth Institution launched the National Readiness Programme for Youth—branded "Ghataref"—to invest in human capital development and enhance preparedness among Emirati graduates.

Additionally, the UAE condemned the Houthi movement's attack on the Saudi-flagged vessel Encelia in the Red Sea, reasserting commitment to regional maritime security. The UAE honoured 600 Quranic memorizers in the Gaza Strip as part of Operation "The Valiant Knight 3" humanitarian initiative, underscoring the nation's ongoing charitable engagement in Palestinian territories.

Watch For:

1. Implementation timeline and measurable outcomes of the statistical development programme—whether coordination gaps between federal and emirate authorities are resolved through the new framework.

2. Adoption rates and policy impact of the AI-supported governance tool by federal ministries and local government entities over the next six months.

3. Recruitment numbers and retention rates for Presidential Guard under the new campaign, as well as programme expansion into other security institutions.
