UAE, Saudi Arabia Hold High-Level Talks on Security Ties

Lead:

Over the past week, senior UAE officials have engaged in multiple high-level telephone and in-person meetings with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Canada. The concentrated diplomatic effort, led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President and Foreign Minister, and involving Crown Prince Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, reflects ongoing coordination on regional security and stability matters.

Details:

According to reporting from Al-Khaleej newspaper, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed conducted a series of telephone conversations with foreign ministers and senior officials across the region. These included discussions with Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah (Kuwait Foreign Minister), Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Bousaidi (Oman Foreign Minister), Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani (Qatar Prime Minister), Dr. Badr Abdelati (Egypt Foreign Minister), Ayman Al-Safadi (Jordan Deputy PM and Foreign Minister), and Nasser Bourita (Morocco Foreign Minister). The topics centered on regional developments and efforts to promote security and stability.

At the bilateral level, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed met on Sunday with Prince Khaled bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Defense Minister, to discuss enhanced cooperation and coordination between the UAE and Saudi Arabia. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also received Prince Khaled on the same day, addressing regional developments and bilateral partnership strengthening. Dr. Anwar Qurqash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, underscored that UAE-Saudi relations are deep-rooted and that the two nations share a common destiny and integrated strategic partnership.

The diplomatic surge coincides with the UAE's expressions of solidarity with regional and international partners facing crises. The nation extended condolences to Saudi Arabia following the loss of two officers in a military helicopter crash, to Canada for casualties from a fire at Canadian Armed Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta, and to Turkey for victims of heavy rains and flooding. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed also received Scott Gilmore, Canadian Prime Minister's Principal Secretary, for discussions on regional matters.

Watch For:

1. Whether these diplomatic consultations produce formal joint statements or coordinated policy positions on key regional issues.

2. Further high-level visits or meetings between UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council members over the coming weeks.

3. Any announcements regarding specific security arrangements or multilateral initiatives stemming from these conversations.
