Overview:

The UAE's financial system demonstrated robust resilience in the first half of 2026, with the central bank confirming record asset quality metrics and the banking sector generating combined profits of 22.4 billion dirhams. Major corporations across technology, energy, and healthcare sectors exceeded market expectations, while oil prices advanced approximately 20 percent for the month despite Friday volatility. Microsoft and Amazon delivered earnings surprises that powered US equity recovery, with Microsoft stock rising 8 percent in extended trading on capital investment commitments.

Details:

The Emirates Central Bank reported that the banking sector achieved its best non-performing loan ratios by end of Q2 2026, reflecting system-wide operational strength and effective asset management. Dubai's major banks collectively reported 22.4 billion dirhams in profits, up 4.7 percent, led by Emirates NBD with 12.9 billion dirhams and Bank Al Mashreq with 4.05 billion dirhams (up 17 percent). Asset expansion across the system accelerated, with deposits climbing 28 percent to 227.2 billion dirhams and loans reaching 169.1 billion dirhams (26 percent growth).

Corporate earnings broadly exceeded projections. Two Point Zero reported first-half net profits of 7.72 billion dirhams, representing 938 percent year-over-year growth from 742.3 million dirhams. Pure Health holdings posted profits of 1.23 billion dirhams (up 20.5 percent), while Emsteel Group achieved 560.4 million dirhams in earnings (up 198.2 percent). International markets firmed on strong tech performance: Microsoft revenue exceeded 90.1 billion dollars with earnings per share at 4.74 dollars, while Amazon Web Services achieved quarterly cloud computing revenue of 42 billion dollars with 37 percent annual growth. Oil prices, though declining Friday, maintained monthly gains of approximately 20 percent amid steady supply flows through critical maritime corridors. Gold prices approached 4,100 dollars per ounce, tracking first monthly gains in five months.

Outlook:

Investors are monitoring further asset quality development in UAE banking following central bank confirmation of sector-wide strength, with particular focus on deposit stability and loan portfolio composition. Market participants remain attentive to artificial intelligence spending trends at major technology firms and energy price dynamics tied to geopolitical developments affecting key shipping lanes.
