The United Arab Emirates recorded a dense slate of political, legislative, and diplomatic activity, with senior officials unveiling major domestic policy decisions — including a minimum age of 15 for social media access, a 738-million-dirham housing project in Abu Dhabi, and a joint condemnation of settler violence against Palestinians — while simultaneously advancing bilateral ties with Belgium, Qatar, Cameroon, and Egypt on the sidelines of the G7 summit. The breadth of action underscores the UAE's accelerating institutional momentum across governance and foreign affairs.
Details:
On the domestic front, Al Khaleej reported that the Cabinet, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, issued a resolution setting 15 as the minimum age for children to access social media platforms, with enforcement mechanisms to be determined. The same outlet noted that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid affirmed the UAE ranks first globally in economic performance and absence of bureaucracy, a claim echoed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, who declared Dubai synonymous with achievement and a global benchmark for ambition.
In infrastructure and development, Al Khaleej reported that Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, inaugurated the Al Samha residential project at a cost of 738 million dirhams, spanning a significant land area in Abu Dhabi. Separately, the Department of Municipalities and Transport approved approximately 20.8 million square metres of total floor-area development projects in Abu Dhabi during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting 17.3 percent growth year-on-year.
On the diplomatic front, Al Khaleej and Newsd both reported that the foreign ministers of the UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar issued a joint statement strongly condemning the continued escalation of settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. Separately, Newsd reported that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi on the sidelines of the G7 summit to discuss bilateral cooperation. The UAE also extradited three wanted individuals to Belgium following a phone call between Justice Minister Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi and his Belgian counterpart, Annelies Verlinden, according to Al Khaleej.
Al Khaleej further noted that the UAE and Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding on data protection for joint security projects, and that the Sharjah Human Resources Department approved a plan to employ 3,000 Emirati nationals during 2026 in line with directives from Ruler Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.
