Iranian Strikes on Kuwait and Bahrain Trigger Sweeping Regional Condemnation as Gulf Tensions Escalate Sharply.

Lead:

Iranian military strikes targeting civilian and vital infrastructure in Kuwait and Bahrain on Wednesday have prompted a cascade of condemnations from Arab governments, regional institutions, and Islamic authorities. The attacks, which caused damage to Kuwait International Airport among other facilities, represent a significant escalation in the ongoing Iran-Gulf confrontation, drawing unified and unusually strong rebukes from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Arab League, and Al-Azhar, while Kuwait's senior ministers mobilized publicly in response.

Details:

According to El-Balad, Kuwait's Interior Minister personally inspected the damaged airport building following what the publication described as "Iranian aggression," while the Defence Minister visited the wounded in hospital. Kuwait's Foreign Ministry, as reported by NewSD, formally condemned what it characterised as an "Iranian assault," noting that the strikes caused damage to a number of vital installations. The convergence of ministerial-level responses within hours signals the severity with which Kuwaiti authorities regard the incident.

Egypt's condemnation was reported simultaneously by El-Fagr and Sada, both quoting the Egyptian Foreign Ministry denouncing the strikes against Bahrain as "a flagrant violation of sovereignty" and employing language described as "the strongest possible terms." El-Fagr further reported that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif issued a separate and forceful condemnation, describing the Iranian attacks on both Kuwait and Bahrain as targeting civilian and economic infrastructure in fraternal Arab states.

El-Balad reported that Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit condemned the strikes against both countries as "blatant Iranian aggressions," warning of dangerous escalation. Saudi Arabia's condemnation, also carried by El-Balad, characterised the attacks as "barbaric aggression and flagrant violation," and explicitly warned that such actions undermine ongoing efforts to restore regional stability — a reference widely interpreted as pointing to the fragility of any Iran-Gulf diplomatic track.

On the Israeli-Lebanese front, El-Fagr reported Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stating that military operations in southern Lebanon are continuing, directly contradicting any suggestion of an operational ceasefire. El-Fagr separately reported six killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Tyre and Marjayoun districts in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, El-Fagr also cited US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirming that Lebanese and Israeli officials met directly at the State Department in Washington to discuss southern border security arrangements — a development that sits in tension with Zamir's hawkish public posture.

Watch For:

Whether Iran issues an official response or justification for the strikes, which could determine whether this episode is contained or escalates into a broader Gulf confrontation.

The outcome of the Washington proximity talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials, given that military operations on the ground in southern Lebanon continue unabated despite diplomatic engagement.

Any convening of the Arab League at emergency level, following Aboul Gheit's strong personal condemnation, which may signal movement toward a collective Arab institutional response.
