Egypt Ranks 1st in Africa for FDI Fourth Year Running

Overview:

Egypt's government is advancing multiple strategic industrial initiatives spanning renewable energy, textiles, and agricultural development. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli is overseeing a comprehensive development plan for the domestic flax sector, aiming to position Egypt as a regional production center by 2030. Simultaneously, Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Eissa is monitoring progress on the Egypt Spinning and Weaving Company modernization project in Al-Mahalla, while the labor sector reports 2,300 new employment opportunities at the Dabaa nuclear power station project.

Details:

The government has directed a full assessment of Tanta Flax and Oil Company, with plans to integrate agricultural cultivation, industrial processing, and marketing strategies to maximize economic value across the flax supply chain. This initiative reflects broader efforts to develop domestic agricultural industries and increase export competitiveness in specialized sectors.

Investment flows remain robust. Egypt ranked first in Africa for attracting foreign direct investment for the fourth consecutive year, securing 15.5 billion dollars, according to the Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Muhammad Farid Salih. The government has also jumped ten positions globally in budget transparency rankings, placing 35th worldwide and first in Africa on entrepreneurship indices. Cairo accounts for 90 percent of all domestic startup companies.

In energy cooperation, Egypt and China are advancing strategic petrochemical projects under discussions between Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi and officials from China National Chemical Engineering Group (CNCEC), targeting local production of select chemical products. The Central Bank of Egypt presented its expertise in data analytics and artificial intelligence to delegations from Ghana's central bank, signaling regional leadership in financial technology adoption.

Outlook:

Investors are tracking the flax sector's execution roadmap and potential export gains as Egypt positions itself in global specialty textile markets. Attention also focuses on the Dabaa nuclear project's employment absorption capacity and whether diversified industrial development can sustain Egypt's foreign investment leadership against regional competitors.
