Egypt Plans 2027-2030 Economic Program Targeting 6.8% Growth

Overview:

Egypt's government is preparing to unveil a National Economic Transformation Program at the end of December, spanning 2027 to 2030. The initiative aims to boost productivity, improve living standards, and attract foreign investment. Key targets include reducing debt service burdens to below 70 percent of revenues by June 2027, lowering inflation to 7 percent by mid-2027, and creating 3 million new jobs while reducing unemployment to 5.5 percent. Officials have outlined plans for eight integrated logistics corridors to position Egypt as a global trade and export hub.

Details:

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly confirmed that foreign currency reserves have risen to 57.3 billion dollars, compared with 16.7 billion dollars during the previous fiscal year. Direct foreign investments reached 18 billion dollars, a substantial increase reflecting improved investor confidence. The government has secured 18 billion dollars from the Suez Canal Agreement, providing critical fiscal support.

Minister of Finance Ahmad Kojok reported that 20 percent rationalization of gas and electricity consumption saved between 7 and 8 billion Egyptian pounds in the previous fiscal year. The government has committed to absorbing additional costs from rising global fuel prices, protecting citizens from price increases during the current phase. The Central Bank of Egypt, led by Governor Hassan Abdallah, identified inflation control as a primary priority, with targeted reductions to 7 percent by the second half of 2027.

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Fareed Saleh announced nine new development zones added to Egypt's economic map. Planning Minister Ahmad Rostom emphasized market research, competitor analysis, and financial planning as pillars for converting youth business ideas into startups, targeting 5 billion dollars in venture capital investment for small and medium enterprises.

Outlook:

Markets will track program implementation details released by end-December and monitor progress toward debt reduction and inflation targets. Investor attention will focus on whether new trade corridors and investment zones successfully attract the targeted foreign capital and whether job creation targets materialize during 2027-2030.
