Overview:
Egyptian food industries achieved their highest export value in sector history during the first three quarters of 2026, totaling 5.821 billion dollars compared to 5.170 billion dollars in the same period of 2025—a growth of 12.6 percent. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture expanded livestock breeding programs to support meat and dairy production, and the government announced increases to medical sector compensation and the minimum wage as part of broader economic stimulus measures outlined at Egypt 2026 forum.
Details:
Food sector exports rose by 651 million dollars year-on-year through September 2026, with September alone generating 655 million dollars in sales. Export shipments totaled approximately 4,390 consignments across the first nine months. The sector's strength reflects expanded international market presence by Egyptian companies and increased competitive capacity in global trade. September exports shipped 190,000 tons through 4,390 food shipments, while 290,000 tons entered Egypt via 2,463 import consignments during the same tracking week.
Within food subcategories, Egypt held the second-largest global market share for sugar industry byproducts—including beet pulp, bagasse, and related residues—capturing approximately 20 percent of worldwide exports with a value of 176 million dollars and 889,000 tons during 2025. This segment achieved a compound annual growth rate of 16 percent.
The government confirmed it will raise the minimum wage to 15,000 Egyptian pounds and increase average incentive payments for medical professionals by no less than 50 percent by the end of fiscal year 2029/2030, effective from the Egypt 2026 forum recommendations.
Outlook:
Export momentum will face monitoring as global demand patterns shift. Medical and agricultural sector investments will require tracking to assess wage-led productivity gains and livestock production yields.
