Brent Crude Tops $91 as Oil Prices Surge 3.58%

Overview:

Saudi Arabia's investment ecosystem expanded today as the LEAP 2026 conference opened in Riyadh with over 1,000 investors managing 14.3 trillion dollars in assets. Concurrent with the summit, crude oil futures climbed 3.58 percent to 91.25 dollars per barrel, while commercial banks operating in the kingdom reported 62.48 billion riyals in profit during the first seven months of 2026, representing a 5.46 percent increase year-over-year. Multiple government entities and private firms announced new digital platforms and technology initiatives aimed at enhancing economic efficiency across sectors.

Details:

The LEAP 2026 conference, running through September 3, attracted participants across finance, investment, technology, and energy sectors. The event saw announcements of initiatives exceeding 15 billion dollars in planned investments and technologies. The Future Investment Initiative Foundation simultaneously confirmed its tenth edition summit for October 26–29 in Riyadh, featuring global leaders from finance and investment sectors.

Oil markets strengthened significantly, with Brent crude contracts rising 3.15 dollars or 3.58 percent by 09:03 GMT, breaking above the 91-dollar threshold. Global crude supplies shifted as Japan's imports surged 17 percent year-on-year in July, supported by increased shipments from the United States, offsetting reduced Middle Eastern deliveries.

On the domestic front, the Saudi stock market closed lower, with the main index declining 31.46 points to 11,127.08 points amid trading valued at 10.2 billion riyals. The National Program for Livestock and Fisheries Development inaugurated genetic evaluation services for dairy cattle and launched a national genomic platform. Saudi Aramco's subsidiary Saudi Power Company reported advancing its sustainability score to 68 points for 2026 under S&P Global classification, a 5 percent increase from the previous year.

Outlook:

Investors are monitoring crude price sustainability amid shifting global supply chains and geopolitical factors affecting Middle Eastern exports. Domestic focus remains on government digital platform adoption, merger and acquisition activity—which comprises 90 percent of economic concentration applications—and the commercial banking sector's continued earnings momentum as interest rate environments stabilize.
