Al-Alamein Africa Business Forum Opens in Egypt

Overview:

Egypt is hosting the inaugural Al-Alamein Africa Business Forum in New Cairo, bringing together African leaders, investors, and business representatives to explore continental trade and investment opportunities. The event coincides with announcements of regulatory simplification, tax registration progress, and sectoral growth in automotive manufacturing and air transport. Market pressures persist in consumer goods, with mobile phone prices rising 55 percent since year start and poultry prices continuing upward momentum.

Details:

The Al-Alamein forum, running through October 4, 2026, has drawn participation from major African economic actors including the founder and chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, described as the largest economic conglomerate in West Africa. Egypt's Minister of Investment Mohamed Farid has engaged with African Development Bank leadership and other multilateral partners to advance Egyptian corporate participation in African markets. Five key sectors—manufacturing, technology, agriculture, energy, and logistics—are identified as priority areas for Egyptian expansion across the continent. Bilateral trade between Egypt and New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) member states totaled USD 1.1 billion over seven months in 2026.

On the domestic front, Finance Minister Ahmed Kajouk reported that 2.5 million property units have registered through the mobile property tax application, with discounts of up to 25 percent available through December 31. Egypt's automotive sector registered 50 percent growth year-to-date. Regional airports processed an additional 235,000 passengers during August and September 2026, representing 4.8 percent growth compared to the same period in 2025. The African Union Commission chair acknowledged the Al-Alamein forum as an important platform for economic transformation.

Outlook:

Investors are watching whether Egypt can translate diplomatic and sectoral commitments into concrete deal flow, particularly in manufacturing and infrastructure. Tax registration momentum and business environment digitalization efforts will signal government commitment to reducing investor friction and competitive cost barriers.
